Sustainable Cities

The first part of our research on Sustainable Cities will be published by the Editorial Tecnológica de Costa Rica in December; you can already place your order by contacting us directly.

This collection of essays, interviews, photography and drawings specifically aims to discuss the contemporary urban environment in Latin America (LAM). The initial discourse and exchange of experience is reflected in a set of territorial, urban and architectural design proposals for the Gran Area Metropolitana (GAM) in Costa Rica to be organized as an exemplary sustainable polycentric network system.

The urban proposition is based on the Planificacion Regional Urbano de la Gran Area Metropolitana (PRUGAM), a Costa Rican governmental program which is co-financed by the European Union (EU).

The motivation for this work is to examine the widely (ab)used term of sustainability and its possible meanings or interpretations in different cultures; either in social, economic, urban or architectural terms.
