Rural Migrant Workers

Within this consultancy, we are looking at economically motivated migration in Central America. The rural poor migrate to other countries within or outside of the region in search for temporary or permanent work. The migrant population is characterized; the juridical-political and institutional framework described; the social and economic effect on migrants, their families and countries investigated; initiatives of international cooperation, governments, civil society, the private sector and the population identified. Main opportunities and obstacles are analyzed with the goal to improve the vulnerable situation of migrants through the help of the Regional Unit for Technical Assistance (RUTA) and its associated agencies.
